The setting of Kohola View estate could not be closer to perfection: from a simple, arid dirt road you emerge at a gated property lushly landscaped with hibiscus, palms, plumeria, soft grass and ferns. Even the life-size reclining Buddha seems particularly contented. Join him in the garden or find your relaxation in a hammock in the yard or a lounge chair on the lanai before easing into the infinity pool or hot tub. Rinse away a day of sun and sand under one of the two hot/cold outdoor garden showers. Gather indoors (if only for variety…the weather here rarely strays from warm-and-sunny) for cold drinks from the bar and lounging on the giant custom-designed down sectional sofa. The large sliding doors bring the outdoors in with you.
Walk down to sandy Waialea Bay Beach, know locally as "69s," for the numbered telephone pole that marks the turnoff from the road. Though you"ll be tempted to stay "home" your entire stay at Kohola View, you won"t want to miss the closest attractions: Hapuna Beach, one of the world"s finest, or the sleepy beach village of Puako, which leads to the state"s finest field of petroglyphs, among the oldest carvings on the island with more than 3,000 figures.

Kohola View consists of three detached hales (houses), all with stunning views of the ocean and tastefully decorated with Asian antiques, graceful lighting and one-of-a-kind shower sliders. In the center of the estate is the main hale, the Pavilion, built with rough-hewn wood walls, exposed beams and rock-slab flooring. This spacious great-room features a professional kitchen with bamboo cabinets and matching refrigerator, copper sink and fixtures, and an island workstation. The seating area with the custom-designed down sofa has a fully equipped bar out of the way of the kitchen itself, eliminating “traffic jams” when meal preparation coincides with respites for rehydration. Additional features of the Pavilion are a koa dining table, a full bath with a walk-in shower and an efficient laundry room and recycling center. Should you need to reach the outside world; the home is equipped with a high-speed, wireless Internet connection.
Alison's Hale, on the north end of the property, with lauhala wall coverings and bamboo flooring, has two ocean-view bedrooms plus a full bath with both indoor and outdoor showers. The outdoor shower offers a slab bench built into the property's rock wall, while the indoor shower features bamboo-and-flower textured accent tiles, river-rock flooring and a slider handpainted with honu (sea turtles), manta rays and whimsical flying fish.
The larger of the two bedrooms has a mini refrigerator, desk and chair. Both bedrooms have entrances from the covered lanai as well as an adjacent outdoor seating area. In addition to the ocean and pool views from this hale, outside each window, lush tropical plantings flourish. Décor includes dual copper sinks, full-length mirror, antique wood platform bed and Asian carved-wood platform slippers.
Anne's Hale, on the south side of the Pavilion, also has two bedrooms with queen-size beds and one full bath, with a tub/shower glass-tiled combination. Additionally there is a screened, cathedral-ceilinged sitting room with a window seat spanning the entire window front of the room for ocean viewing. The window seat's two twin-size punee (day beds) can be a children's sleeping area, or, upon request, joined to make a larger bed. This hale also has seating areas on the lanai, including a charming tea table and chairs.
