In the peaceful, gated community of Champion Ridge at Mauna Lani, this beautiful home offers a 360-degree panorama of Big Island mountains, giving truth to the resort’s name: Mauna Lani, where the “mountains meet the heavens.”

Accommodating 8 guests in three separate “hale” or houses, the Compound offers the comfort and privacy of a private home along with the amenities of a resort widely recognized as a leader in historic preservation and stewardship of the land. Painstakingly created on Kalahuipua’a, an ancient “’ili” or land section, Mauna Lani Resort created a delightful sand beach at Maka’iwa Bay, while preserving the royal Hawaiian aquaculture system that dates back as far as 250 BCE. Walking trails meander throughout the fishpond preserve, the historic park and ancient shelter caves.

The resort’s ponds are also home to young “honu” (green sea turtles) from Oahu’s Sea Life Park. The honu are nurtured until ready for release into the wild each year on July 4, Turtle Independence Day, an event of great celebration at Maka’iwa Beach. More than 125 honu have been released during this program’s 20-year history.

Year-round, Maka’iwa Beach is idyllic for all ocean activities, from relaxing under a private cabana to some of the best snorkeling on the island, with calm waters well-suited to families with children. Nearby, at the boathouse, embark on a whale watch, snorkel sail, sunset sail or a scuba diving adventure.

Handy to charming Puako village, Kailua-Kona and historical sights, multiple world-class beaches, many shops, a wide range of restaurants featuring cuisines from around the world: from steak to sushi, Hawaiian fusion to beachside burgers—Mauna Lani Resort Home offers a perfect trip to paradise.

House Design

Contrasting the nearby lava fields, this 3,000-square-foot home is beautifully landscaped with arching palms, colorful croton, ti, and fragrant plumerias. The interior is decorated with Asian art, screens, Buddhist prayer bowl, and stone sculptures. The lanai (patio) offers bronze, wood and rattan furniture and a stone-sculpture fountain.

With three separate “hale” or houses, you and your guests can gather for companionship and celebration in the main house’s kitchen/dining/living great room. The 17-foot pocket sliders fully retract to expand this space to include the lanai and pool/hot tub area. Prepare meals in the professionally equipped kitchen or on the lanai grill.

The master hale, next to the pool, has a king-size bed, spacious spa-like bath area with elegant Jacuzzi, shower room with built-in seating, outdoor shower and companion sinks. A walk-in closet and dressing room with washing machine, a mini-refrigerator and sink, plus flat-screen television complete this comfortable suite.

A second bedroom suite is attached to the great room by a sunken den, perfect as an office, bedroom for young children or quiet reading room. The bedroom for this family suite has its own door to the lanai, as well as king-size bed, shower, toilet and flat-screen television.

The third hale, on the other side of the two-car garage, offers guests a more secluded get-away from the main house. It offers two separate rooms with one queen-size bed and one king-size bed, full baths with large walk-in showers and walk-in closets, carpeting and flat-screen televisions.
