Hale-Lihikai

Part of the oceanfront Hale Lihikai (“House at the Edge of the Sea”) compound, this newly available studio apartment rests above the property’s three-car garage. Rented on its own it’s perfect for a couple, or together with the home for “spill-over guests.” Its second-story placement positions it perfectly to watch the sun come up behind Mauna Kea and to see it set over the Pacific just beyond the main house.During winter months, you can actually hear the whales that visit our warm waters, one of the world’s most important humpback whale habitats.
The Hale Lihikai property, well-loved and maintained as the place where the owners raised their family, greets you with portals of verdant plantings, palms outside your windows, and lush displays of hibiscus, lilies, brilliant orange Royal Poinciana in season. Our favorite is the giant Powder Puff tree with feathery leaves and delicate pink-and-white blossoms.
This studio provides comfortable living-room seating, a cozy sleeping nook, full convenient kitchen and roomy bathroom. The large lanai adds living space to enjoy a meal or a cool beverage as you watch the Puako world go by. Ocean access is just a few doors away, and so is the Puako General Store, great for essentials, snacks, DVD rentals, and friendly “talk story.”

Recently renovated, Hale Lihikai in the Trees offers a couple a comfortable space for on the ocean side of Puako Beach Drive. Tropical-themed décor throughout includes an appealing etched-glass divider between living and sleeping areas. The kitchen is central, convenient, and spacious.
Greet the morning sun rising behind Mauna Kea through the kitchen windows. Let the swaying palm leaves outside the living-room windows lull you, sleep with gentle cross breezes refreshing you. Watch the comings and goings along the street from the second-floor gated lanai. The full kitchen will tempt you to prepare meals featuring fresh Big Island fish, meat, and produce from our area farmers’ markets (10-20 minutes away). Or choose from numerous restaurants in Waikoloa, Kawaihae, and Waimea.
Walk the beach road, saunter the shoreline, snorkel every day without getting in a car or venture the five-minute drive to sample the superb beaches of Waialea Bay and Hapuna Beach State Park.Rinse off the salt and sand in the outdoor shower with hot and cold water or relax in the soothing waters of the jetted bathtub.
