We returned to the Wailani house at Puako and found Wailea Bay better than ever. While snorkeling in the bay a manta ray cruised by (harmless, no stinger) and we saw lots of turtles and fish. The weather was sunny as expected and the humpback whales swam close enough to see their backs and flukes from the house. There’s a shady, uncrowded beach right below the house and it’s a short drive or hike to Hapuna, one of the best beaches in Hawaii with crystal clear water, sugary white sand, and good people-watching. Our teenagers liked to hang out at the house pool to recuperate from trips like the green sand beach at South Point (incredible waves!) Spring Break was over too fast…
