Hale Mele Mele is one of Puako’s original beach cottages lovingly restored, refreshed and redecorated to feel like home-away-from-home. The fully-equipped kitchen, while compact, has all you need to prepare home-cooked meals utilizing some of the Big Island’s delicious fresh fish, meats, fruits and veggies. Beautiful quartz countertops and open shelving with colorful dishware complete the charm.The air-conditioned sitting room/dining area just off the kitchen provides a hang-out for friends or family to socialize during meal prep. Conveniently located off the kitchen, is the home’s full bathroom, with a charming and private indoor/outdoor shower accessible from the house or the carport; great for rinsing off salt, sand and sunscreen after a day in the ocean. Where else but the tropics can you bathe with nature year round?

  Hale Mele Mele is clean, comfortable and in a great location. We were looking for some place that was away from the tourist resorts without being too remote. It offers most of the amenities I was looking for in a vacation cottage. The yard is beautiful, spacious and well maintained. The management company were very helpful and friendly. The layout of the interior is a little quirky for multiple guests (i.e. queen bed in one of the open, front rooms) which can be awkward for privacy, etc. but overall all of the guests in my party were very happy with the accommodations, the location and the management. I would definitely stay here again.

  Loved the house and location! Lovely beach across the street for sunsets, snorkeling and checking out tide pools. Very close to sand beaches for swimming, etc (e.g. Hapuna). Cute and comfortable house with everything you need, and Mary at 2Papayas was great. Would have loved it even more if there was a restaurant within walking distance

  I have been coming to the Big Island and specifically Hapuna for two decades. This was my first time renting a house and it was a great decision. Compared to the big, luxury hotels it was simple, quiet and private and allowed a much deeper sort of relaxation. The location in Puako is perfect. I'm a fanatical golfer and it is only 5-10 minutes away from all of the great golf courses. The ocean is literally across the street....though you can't see it because of the vegetation. A short walk though leads to marvellous tidal pools where you will ALWAYS see multiple sea turtles. A sandy, swimming beach (69) is a 5 minute drive. The house itself was bright, breezy and tropical but had every modern comfort. For myself and my adult daughter and her boyfriend it was very spacious. The yard is huge and feels like a private park. The house is well equipped with beach gear and all of the home necessities. Now I can't ever imagine going back to the big hotels. This was a true holiday.

  This was the perfect house for a private getaway. The house was clean, quite and provided everything you would need for a comfortable stay in paradise. The staff was friendly, thoughtful and attentive. Upon arrival we were provided cold mint towels for relaxing after traveling and also left in the fridge was a bottle of champagne and a handwritten card to congratulate us on our honeymoon. This house was by far, the best rental we have stayed at...highly recommend!

  We used the Hale Mele Mele as the epicenter of our week on the Big Island to celebrate our daughter's graduation. What a cute cottage, in a quiet neighborhood, across the street from the ocean. Very private. In the spacious backyard, you're surrounded by palm trees and the sounds of 23 types of birds and the ocean waves in the distance. The place was super clean. The outdoor shower was a highlight for everyone. The AC in the master bedroom and living area saved us. We used all the other floor fans as well. Mary and her team were friendly and professional and made sure we had what we needed. Totally would stay here again. The kitchen is small, as advertised, but does include everything you need, and the fridge/freezer is full sized and we used the dishwasher every night. If you want a more island feel away from the condo/resorts, this is a great option.

  My friend and I visited for spring break and it was perfect. We each had our own space. It was clean and so close to the beach. It's not far from a grocery store and a few of our favorite lunch spots. We ate breakfast on the porch each morning before heading to the beach for snorkeling each day. Mary was very responsive to any questions we had. It's important to note that the only shower is the outdoor one, but that wasn't an issue for us.

  My husband and I I had already been on the island for two weeks with family in a condominium just south of Kona. That time was very fun, as we were with family and some old friends. My husband and I have stayed in Puako more than several times in several different cottages. We have a favorite that we’ve stayed in several times, but this cottage is right up there with our favorite. The cottage was exceptionally clean, had everything that we needed to cook, to bath, and all the beach equipment you could ask for. The outdoor shower is to die for. I cannot tell you enough how well Mary took care of us. She was extremely thoughtful and generous and was always available for any questions. The people who tend to the cottage and prepare it for us and others were wonderful. The furnishings were beautiful, and the cottage was full of everything Hawaiian which we loved. The beds were extremely comfortable with beautiful linens and having air conditioning in parts of the cottage was a bonus. We would definitely come back to this cottage and stay, if you have four or so people very easy to share the space. And just a tiny little short walk across the road to the beautiful beach and the sunsets. 5 stars for sure, from a seasoned couple who know the islands. We used to live Oahu, now we get Hawaii homesick and return every year.

  Fantastic location and great outdoor yard with tables, chairs, hammock. The configuration of the internal space is unusual and best for a family with kids given the lack of privacy for 2 'bedroom' spaces. Still, we made it work for two couples and had a wonderful time.
