The owners of this home are four of the grandchildren of R.T and Gerry Treadwell, who first purchased the property in the 1930’s when R.T was the doctor in Kohala. One is an architect, who designed it to “alight gently on the land,” distilling details to keep the uncluttered, pared-down lifestyle recalled from those childhood summers. Elegant in its simplicity and consistent style, the home is raised on concrete pilings with a butterfly roof, which collects and channels rainwater, an old custom in this arid climate. Designed to capture the trade-wind breezes and give its inhabitants both communal space and privacy, the home is open, airy and thoroughly “old Hawaii.” Hawaii GE & TA tax number 110-889-1648-01, STVR-19-359287, NUC-19-1116

Guest Reviews

“This was the perfect place for an extended family to stay. Thanks to the 2 Papayas crew for making our stay easy and comfortable. The house is very open, and has a great rustic feel to it. We would and plan to come back.”

“The house was wonderfully well stocked, conveniently located, with plenty of room for our extended family. The property managers are attentive and helpful. The yard and the beach access are amazing! We swam, snorkeled, cooked up a storm, and generally had a perfect vacation!”

“This is a very special house with every detail considered. Private and cozy but not isolated. Modern design, casual feeling, open to the outdoors... perfect! Thank you.”

“We feel so fortunate that we were able to stay with our family in this lovely home. It is perfect for a large family - plenty of bedrooms, baths and a wonderful large table for meals. The property is large so there is plenty of personal space as well as communal. Just a few steps to the beach but shielded by vegetation for privacy. We enjoyed every minute. We enjoyed some of the local restauarants - A Bays and Manta in Waikoloa, Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea, fish tacos at Hapuna Beach, the amazing malasada truck just near our property - but we also enjoyed eating at the house - fresh poke from food land - fresh fish - grilled steaks and kalbi ribs. Everything we needed was there for us to use - appliances, a grill, beach chairs, beach towels , a place to hang our wet swim suits, washer and dryer along with detergent. Like home - but better! Thank you for wonderful hospitality and loads of memories.”
