About Us
Prior to your arrival, we do a thorough pre-check to be sure everything is as it should be and we keep in touch during your stay. We can’t promise that nothing will go wrong, but if it does, you will be able to reach us in a hurry. We answer the phone and return calls promptly if we miss them—you will never get lost in complicated voicemail or reach an impersonal answering service. During our 25 years here, we have built relationships with an extensive network of people we can rely on—plumbers, electricians, pool service, personal chefs, cleaners – whatever it takes to make things right.

At 2Papayas, we are dedicated to making a meaningful difference in both our community and the environment. We frequently contribute to organizations like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and the Hawaii Food Bank, while also supporting local animal rescues such as Kareshawaii.org and Catsnips. Our team is also passionate about volunteering for these causes. We prioritize sustainability by using unscented laundry detergent, eco-friendly cleaning and bath products, and promote the use of reef-safe sunscreen to protect our oceans. Additionally, we encourage our guests to recycle by providing bins and clear instructions to help make it easy.

“I live nearby,” Mary says, “and work here, so I am minutes away. Often I come over personally to take care of your needs. Or I send someone who is right for the job.”
Mary grew up in Iowa, “where we believed in hard work and getting things right, no matter what it takes. When I moved to Hawaii back in 1980s, I caught the ‘aloha spirit,’ maybe because it fit so well with that Midwestern friendliness.” Jumping right into the guest-services industry, Mary learned the “guests are Number One” mantra at the prestigious Mauna Lani Hotel, and honed her “grace under pressure” temperament as a private chef and caterer before turning to vacation-rental management.
“It’s my personal goal that you have a wonderful experience during your stay, from booking your home to that final ‘aloha’ as you head back home.”

Guest Services and Reservations
When you inquire online, through the website or VRBO, you will be in touch with our reservationist, Marley Taufmann. She grew up on the Big Island, learning to swim in the Puako tide pools as a three-year-old. Marley has a degree in Biology from Colorado State but when she and her Denver-native-husband, Adam, relocated to the Big Island after completing their education, she joined the family business. Having grown up on-island she is a wealth of information about the rental homes, things to do and places to see.
